About Us
The Carolina Fusion Cloggers came together in January of 2007. The team started with phone calls made by managing director Stefanie Grubbs while thumbing through her little black book of clogging friends. Alumni from The Bailey Mountain Cloggers, local cloggers, as well as dancers from all over the South East were contacted. The result… a team made up of familiar faces with friendships that will last a lifetime. During 2007 Carolina Fusion made its first impression on the clogging circuit and for a team that only practices once a month the reviews were positive.
Since the start of Carolina Fusion in 2007 so many things have happened. New members, new styles and what we on Fusion refer to as “The Core.” While Fusion is still a strong mixture of talented people from all over the Southeastern United States, Coming together as one isn’t always easy. With so many resources in clogging today, we believe “pull from the minds of many, and come out with great results.” We not only work from within our “private family” we also look to other sources for something “new” to us. We are still the same young hearted group of adults that share one great love, one great passion . . . Clogging.
During 2008 Carolina Fusion traveled to competitions located in: Lincolnton NC (CCA), Kingsport TN (CCA), Maggie Valley (ACHF), Brevard (CCA), and Maggie Valley Nationals (ACHF). At the 2008 ACHF Nationals held in Maggie Valley, Carolina Fusion joined with friends and danced an Open Hoedown that represented many teams such as: Xtreme Dance Co, Critical Impact, Clogging FX, Leather N Lace, Bailey Mountain Cloggers, Peanut City, Southern Mountain Fire, Solid Gold Edition, Sims Country Cloggers, and Pride of Carolina. Also in Maggie Valley, Former Team Captain Jonathan Miller made the All-American Team and Lora Cretella made the Junior All-American Team. Donna Riley (Mother of team member Shamus Riley) was inducted into the American Clogging Hall of Fame. In January of 2009 Carolina Fusion competed at The Showdown of Champions and placed in the Top 5 teams for Open Hoedown. In the Fall at America’s Clogging Hall of Fame National event, Carolina Fusion placed in the top 3 teams in every category that the team competed in. Brandy Howell, Team Captain/Assistant Director made the All American Team.
In 2010 Carolina Fusion’s goal was to embrace it’s contemporary side with a mixture of west coast meets east coast styles in: Standing Line, Open Line, and a Show routine that will debut in 2011 and it is sure to Chill Your Bones as well as a small team with big personalities. Competition in 2010 was a growing experience but the change has shown a different side of Fusion, one I think the audience will appreciate. With Nationals approaching in October and the Las Vegas Invitational in November, Fusion is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Since 2007 Carolina Fusion still continues to grow and shape itself into “One Sound,” while adapting to constant changes. The Core dancers of Fusion believe in the “Clogging Family” and not just from within our own team. Clogging for most of us has been about meeting new friends from other teams and creating “familiar faces with friendships that last a lifetime.” That’s what this is all about anyway, getting together, showing what you’ve got, and having fun doing what you all love to do . . . Dance.
